POLICE BRUTALLY ATTACKED US AT THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY – SOWORE

Protesters appear to be both Nigeria’s government and the Military’s biggest problem. This statement is born out of the Friday morning shootout by the military against protesters.

The struggle for good governance and demand to end police brutality continues to cause more tension and harm to the nation’s image.  Nationally, the youths killed at the Lekki toll gate were mourned, and then, there came this silence by the nationwide youth protesters, possibly out of fear or perhaps hopelessness, but one group refused to be silenced. Omoyele Sowore and the “Revolution Now” are still on the protest even though their action is despised by the military and Nigerian government.

In the early hours of today, protesters and Sowore continue to lift up arms against the government. He (Sowore) reported on his Twitter handle some hours ago the situation on the ground and the state of protesters.

Tagging the Nigerian police and the National Assembly, Sowore complains as he puts it with a hashtag “PoliceNG brutally attacked us at the @nassnigeria this morning during an early morning action. Five protesters were injured and arrested”.

His statement insinuates a lot of things, one may be tempted to ask; what is the fate of those injured protesters? Were they actually carrying some form of weapons? And what are the conditions that warrant shooting at protesters?

Despite the report of the Endsars protests turning violent and looting becoming a trend for the protesters, there was no report of this particular one causing any harm yet being shot at.

The issue of shooting at innocent and peaceful protesters in Nigeria has become a culture and always, the military who are doing the shooting keeps going free without prior explaination of their misconduct while the country’s government maintain an ignorant and mute position.
